Patient Administration and ARV Management System

Introduction

Worldwide there are over 40 million living with HIV or Aids. In South Africa it is estimated that there are 5.3 million that are HIV positive and that 2000 more are infected every day.

According to a United Nations report in November of 2005, at least 85% of these people are not receiving anti-retroviral aids treatment.

Responsibilities

There are number areas that need to be addressed. These include:

  • hospital and clinic accessibility
  • doctors and nurse’s availability
  • pre and post test counseling
  • administering of the drugs
  • dietary requirements and nutrition supplements
  • legal issues
  • management systems

Objective

Is for all to help save the lives of those infected with HIV and Aids, via education, social support and care, administering of the treatments, and managing the pandemic through structured systems.

The Goal

To deliver ARV treatment to those infected as quickly and seamlessly as possible, and to have a computerised system that will monitor and manage their every physical and mental health need.

The Catalyst

Virtualpurple has modified their successful booking software to meet the urgent needs for managing HIV and Aids patient records, and administering the rollout of ARV medication.

The Success

In order to measure a patient’s progress, it is imperative that records are kept of visits, medication, blood counts, dietary and nutrition intake etc. It is from this data that statistical information can be produced to prove the success of the HIV/Aids programme and the rollout.

The Focus
